Location: Grand Californian Hotel
Our Ranking #20 in Table Service Restaurants, Serves Brunch, Lunch and Dinner
Storytellers Café is in the Grand Californian Hotel and the atmosphere and décor match the hotel’s style – arts and crafts, woodsy with soaring ceilings. It’s comfortable and casual.
They serve buffet meals only. Breakfast/brunch is served from 7AM-1:15PM which is a Character Meal. See our post about Disneyland Character Dining for more on this. In this post we are only reviewing the dinner buffet as a Table Service meal and they don’t offer Character Dining at night.
For other restaurant rankings, see our article on Disneyland Table Service Restaurants Ranked
Storytellers Café reopens from 4-9PM for a buffet dinner that may include access to a reserved viewing area for the first or second World of Color show if you pay an extra fee of $11 per person (the upcharge amount could change, but that was the price when we wrote this post). See our separate post about Special Dining Packages.
Prices change regularly so we don’t put in meal prices, but this buffet is expensive even without the World of Color viewing. We think there are better dining options for less money, but if you want the World of Color preferred viewing then it may be worth the price.
Menu Highlights
They offer a large buffet with Fruit, Salads, Hot Sides, Carved Meat and many Deserts. Non alcoholic beverages are included in the buffet price. They charge extra for espresso coffee drinks, bottled water and Mocktails and Alcohol. The alcohol menu includes beer with some draft and most bottled, cocktails, and wine.
The highlight of the buffet is the meat carving station where they had Prime Rib and Turkey Breast options. The meat was good – we had no complaints.
The salads, side dishes and the array of desserts were good – nothing stood out for us as particularly special and nothing was bad, except the flatbread lacked flavor.
The carved Prime Rib is the highlight of the buffet and it is juicy and freshly served by a Cast Member.
Pro Tips
If you are interested in the World of Color viewing package, pay close attention to the Disneyland website about dining time for the first show because that’s where this package is the best value because the first show is more crowded. The second show is usually less crowded, and you could be disappointed if they already handed out all the tickets for the first show.
Summary
That’s our opinion and yours may be different, of course. The buffet foods can changes, so we are basing this on what we’ve tried.
While we rank Storytellers Café lower than other Table-Service restaurants for dinner, we do dine here from time to time for the World of Color Dining Package. On a night when you’re really hungry, a buffet can be a good option.
